When you make a purchase they pull up your phone# and it is automatically applied. I had the very same experience at my local Home Depot. I’ve been using the military ID for some time and all of a sudden I was told that unless the card said “service connected” the discount would not be available. I’m going to have to escalate this to Home Depot corporate headquarters. I would be happy to start shopping at Lowes but we don’t have one here and I would have to drive over an hour to reach the closes one.

Stay Connected with the Veterans Advantage Community
That’s the reason some places have stopped giving them. Be thankful to those that give it, but remember they don’t have to give you anything. Their Home Depot foundation has been helping veterans since 2011, both in the form of donations, and employment. Many vets have sworn off Home Depot, and have decided to use Lowes for the purchases instead. Your best bet is to check with your local store for the full list.

I have shopped there for years and never had any trouble applying the 10 % military discount. When I was told they had changed their ID policy I registered on line but now you have to use a smart phone app at check out. I don’t have a smart phone and don’t want one so I am told at their service desk there is no way to get the discount. Even if you have the app and could get the discount, most items are not eligible and this just happens to be the items you are likely to purchase at a building supply store etc.
SheerID Helps You Verify
With that said, the new military discount is now done online, and you’re only required to verify your service one time. The military discount is available both for both online and in store purchases. The Home Depot offers a 10% discount every day to all active service members, National Guardsmen, reservists, veterans and military spouses. I was purchasing a new clothes dryer at Home Depot.

Spouses must also provide their service member’s name, birth date and email address registered to their Home Depot account. Home Depot also instituted a maximum annual military discount limit of $400 in January 2022. Previously, Home Depot’s 10% military discount was valid for purchases up to $5,000 (a $500 discount), but there wasn’t an annual cap. However, the discount policy recently changed.
The above list is not exhaustive, and does not represent a full list of items available for military/veteran discount. You can redeem the military discount 365 days out of the year, and it is no longer restricted to specific holidays like Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Unfortunately, they don’t do a very good job of explaining the exact terms and conditions of the military discount anywhere on their website. For easy access to your discount, make sure the app is set up to remember your username and password. Have it pulled up and ready to present when you get to the checkout counter. Add deeper discounts and additional benefits to your membership.

I haven’t shopped at Lowe’s for a very long time due to them royally screwing me over on a contract. Even before I had my ID Home Depot gave me the discount. As a former Home Depot employee and a us veteran I must say Lowe’s is better to veterans then Home Depot. Lowe’s has special parking places for vets, they don’t argue with vets and they actually go out of their way to help vets. Home Depot does not, Home Depot has gone so far down since I worked for them when the two founders still ran the company.
To use in store, you can download the Home Depot mobile app, and navigate to the military discount page. Scan the QR code during your transaction, and the discount will be applied to eligible items during checkout. You can also log in to your Home Depot account on HomeDepot.com on your mobile device and scan the QR code from there. The QR codes are updated regularly for security reasons. For online purchases, log in to your account and the discount on all eligible items will be applied at checkout once you’ve enrolled.
